Updated September 2026. If you book a notary or commissioner in Ontario, ask whether the displayed price includes HST. Most services supplied in Canada are subject to GST/HST, and Ontario’s current HST rate is 13%. Registered suppliers generally charge applicable HST on taxable services.

How to read a notary quote

  • Confirm the fee for each document or signature and any travel, courier, rush or other charges.
  • Check whether prices are shown before or after applicable HST.
  • Ask for an itemized receipt if you need one for your records.

The tax treatment may differ depending on the type of supply, the supplier’s status and place-of-supply rules. Do not assume U.S. state sales-tax rules apply in Ontario. Notary On The Go shows applicable charges in its booking process; review the total before confirming.
